Christabel and Laurra from One Life Weddings share some of their wonderful weddings with Want That Wedding and all the information you need to know about their unique wedding ceremonies…

 A Castle Wedding, North Somerset

Stuart and Vashti held their wedding day on September 23 2011 at the amazing Walton Castle in Clevedon, North Somerset. They wanted a unique and flexible venue that they could use exclusively for their wedding weekender. Walton Castle is a 17th Century, Grade II listed castle set upon a hill on the site of an earlier Iron Age hill fort. The property is available to rent in its entirety with the freedom to host your very own country house party.

Stuart and Vashti wanted a personal ceremony that reflected how they feel about each other and the belief that they’re soul mates. We included a reading about soul mates and her sister read an extract from Captain Correlli’s Mandolin (one of their favourite books).

They have a daughter together who Vashti carried up the aisle and stood with her parents throughout the ceremony. It was very important to them that she was a big part of this special moment, and the photographs really show this.

They chose to include the ancient Celtic tradition of Handfasting, where the couple’s hands are tied together symbolising their love and commitment. They wrote their vows together which were simple and totally genuine.

Stuart and Vashti have a very close network of friends and family and wanted them to feel very much part of the ceremony. When I asked the guests if they would support them in their marriage, the crowd screamed “we do!” and we ended the ceremony with everyone pronouncing them husband and wife!

A Back Garden Wedding, Buckinghamshire

Leigh and Victoria contacted us in a bit of a fluster. Victoria had her heart set on marrying in her parent’s garden, something she had dreamed of ever since she was a child. Not knowing how to go about it she contacted us for advice, thinking the only option was the arduous and expensive task of licensing the garden herself.

When she discovered One Life Weddings could create a full wedding ceremony with all the traditional elements you’d expect and in her dream location, she was over the moon. Better still, she was excited about having a personal ceremony which reflected how they both felt about each other and the words they wanted to say.

On the wedding day, a small open sided marquee was erected in her parents beautiful garden in rural Buckinghamshire. This was decorated with wild flowers and a green carpet, which blended naturally with the lawn, was laid for her entrance. 100 guests were seated and the weather was perfect.

The ceremony included entrance music played on a keyboard (a song that had a sentimental connection to Victoria’s late Grandfather), a humorous retelling of the first time they met and tears all round when I talked about their hopes and dreams for their future together.

Both relatively shy people, Leigh and Victoria wanted to write their own vows but asked if I could read them and if they could simply reply: “I do.” It was a very touching moment for everyone and the bride had got her wish of marrying in her perfect location!

A Posh Festival Wedding, Yorkshire

Caroline and Aaron were married on 30th July 2011 at Newton Grange, near Skipton in North Yorkshire. The day was planned with the help of the fantastic Kelly from Boho Weddings and wow was it hot!

The theme for the outdoor wedding was a secret garden / posh festival feel with lots of colours and sunflowers. The whole day was completely relaxed and the venue allowed them to do everything they wanted so they had a bouncy castle, hay bales, a BBQ and guests camping overnight.

Caroline and Aaron wanted their wedding to reflect them as a couple and it was important to them to include personal vows to one another which they wrote separately and kept secret until the day itself, they were so moving, there really wasn’t a dry eye left!
