Alice In Wonderland: Julia and Mark’s Super 8mm Effect Wedding Film

Super 8mm wedding films have become an increasingly popular request from modern brides and grooms who want to capture their wedding day in a unique, special and fun way. This technique though, is an expensive process.

Today’s wedding film by Agnes Photography & Film actually has a Super 8mm Film effect and was shot using a DSLR – Canon 5D. It still has that wonderfully lovely and nostalgic vibe. Take a look…

Julia and Mark married on the clearest summer day on a beautiful farm in South Cave, Yorkshire.

Their Alice In Wonderland wedding theme, stunning location and charm made it a real joy for me to capture their day on film.

We had a bit of a hard time with the vicar at the church – she’d yell at us as soon as we’d lift our cameras!

But luckily, with a bit of cunning craftsmanship, Claire – the wedding photographer – managed to sneak some snaps, and I got my shots :)

So a bit of advice from us… if you’re planning your wedding ceremony at a church, always make sure the vicar agrees to film and photography before the ceremony.

Since we had a late 3pm start and were only there until the wedding breakfast, sadly we had a very short time with Julia and Mark.

Nevertheless the finished video left both Julia and Mark beaming!

The perfect little film montage to encapsulate the perfect wonderland wedding. We wish them the happiest of ever-after’s.

“Wow. OMG I love it! How sneaky haha! Mark LOVED it.

We watched it about 10 times last night (sad?) and Mark kept going on alllll night about how well it was shot haha. 

Ahh so excited to show it to our family! Love it!”

It is becoming more and more popular to film weddings with 8mm Film Cameras, giving the final video a nostalgic warm feel.

Last year I received an enquiry from a bride asking if I too offer this lovely 8mm Film package that has become so popular, so I decided to do a little investigation into this new trend. First of all after watching these beautiful vintage wedding films I absolutely fell in love with them. Capturing things on film adds a sort of depth to your movie and it really is a timeless piece of art. It is, however, quite an expensive piece of art.

So I decided to try and recreate the Super 8mm Film effect on my digital videos, and offer that as an extra to my clients, but without the expensive costs and the bonus ability to still capture sound (which is something you can’t do on the 8mm Film Cameras). Julia & Marks video served as the perfect sample of this effect and has received a lot of interest from brides and grooms.
