When you’re invited to spend a few days in a honeymoon cottage billed as the most romantic cottage in the uk you do a little big squeak and then jump at the chance!
Nestled in a sweet little village in North Devon, Rose Cottage did not disappoint – read on for more info on this gorgeously romantic cottage and read my review at the end of the post.
Love is always in the air at Rose Cottage! With an astonishing 42 proposals and 186 honeymoons in less than four years, the luxury 5 star Devon self-catering cottage might provide the most romantic holiday in the South-West, or even the UK.
Deep in the picturesque North Devon countryside, in the quiet rural village of High Bickington, between Dartmoor, Exmoor and the coast, Rose Cottage is for couples who really want to get away from it all.
Owners Bob and Kate Boothby have invested heavily in the cottage to ensure it offers something really special for guests. From a beautiful copper bath big enough for two to a top-of-the range Beachcomber hot tub in the back yard and a Bose surround system throughout the thatched cottage, Bob and Kate have thought of Bob said: “Rose Cottage goes a step beyond other self-catering accommodation. It’s a 300 year old thatched cottage, but everything inside, right down to the light switches, is luxurious and high-end. We keep investing and innovating to keep the quality high for our guests.
“We are very proud of Rose. If Kate could move in there tomorrow, she would!”
Guests can book additional romantic treats on arrival and the whole community buys into the romance of Rose Cottage.
Bob said: “A couple who were staying at Rose Cottage were chatting in the local pub and said they were getting married on Saturday and planned to spend a lazy day in bed on Sunday. So the landlord of the pub took them a Sunday roast round so they didn’t even need to get out of their pyjamas!”
Rose Cottage is part of the award-winning Millbrook Cottages portfolio. Millbrook offers small, intimate weddings and many of Rose Cottage’s honeymoon couples have tied the knot at Millbrook.
Although particularly popular with visitors from Bristol and the M4 corridor, it has also hosted couples from as far afield as Australia and as close to home as Barnstaple.
Rose Cottage opened in April in 2012.
The cottage is independently assessed by Quality in Tourism, on behalf of VisitEngland. Rose Cottage has been awarded a 5 star self-catering accolade and also holds a Gold Award in recognition of its exceptional quality.
WTW Rose Cottage Review
From the moment we walked into this pretty thatched cottage we were super impressed. We were greeted by the sound of music playing throughout all the rooms and the smell of FRESH BREAD baking in the kitchen and homemade jam. What a treat after our journey. We excitedly dumped our bags and took a good look around and we could immediately see that so much thought and consideration had been put into making this cottage a luxurious and romantic retreat. Perfect for a mini-moon!
Big highlights were the incredibly deep copper bath and luxury pamper products provided – so of course jumping in and taking a soak was one of my main priorities. The bedroom featured a huge, plush bed with high quality bed linen and sweet touches like aromatic lavender pillow mist. We slept so well in there it was hard to leave.
Our evenings were spent cosying up next to the log burner and state-of-the-art smart tv – which Chris enjoyed playing around with immensely. After un-winding we would grab the prosecco, pop it the cooler and go out into the back courtyard garden to have a dip in the jacuzzi. It was just so relaxing hanging out together with none of the outside pressures of the world. Another fab feature was the fully stocked honesty bar – choose your poison and then leave the cash in the pot. Genius.
If self service isn’t your thing (we did a shop and cooked ourselves) there’s a great pub over the road that serves food. The villiage itself has a few pubs and is set in the devon countryside. We took a day trip out to Clovelly which is an historic, family owned fishing villiage and is well worth a visit.
So would I recommend staying at Rose Cottage and does it live up to the most romantic cottage in the UK? The answer to that is YES without a doubt I would recommend Rose Cottage and it even has a lovely second bedroom if you wanted to go with friends or family.
Is it the most romantic cottage in the UK? That I cannot answer as I have not been to all cottages in the UK, but yes I can say that Chris and I had a very romantic, relaxing and luxurious time in this idyllic cottage and it is the most romantic cottage that we have ever been too.
Planning a mini-moon? Pop on over to Rose Cottage and check them out! Also don’t forget to check out their wonderful ‘Runaway’ wedding venue, Millbrook Estate if you’re planning a more intimate affair. We had a quick little visit and this is an utterly charming place to tie the knot.
We had a great time, great place in a wonderful location. You will love it!
