I had always imagined getting married at my parent’s house. We did look at some venues in the area but none of them felt right. Getting married at home was definitely more work but it gave us so much choice in terms of our suppliers and just felt so personal.

I tried on a huge number of dresses and as soon as I put this Suzanne Neville dress on I knew it was the dress I’d been looking for. I loved that it had a really full skirt but wasn’t too heavy to wear, and the rose pattern is so subtle but absolutely beautiful.
We wanted the style of our wedding to be classic English country garden but also light and airy. We tried to keep the decorations simple but personal, with lots of foliage and flowers.
We had amazing weather on the day so we were able to have the whole front of the marquee open to the garden which really helped to create that atmosphere.
As we hired a marquee we had an entirely blank canvas and lots of scope for decoration. We used a variety of shops (the range, etsy, Whittingtons, ebay, vistaprint). In the last week, we also used amazon prime a lot!
We tried to make as much as possible, for example, Andre made all the wedding signs.
We had two favours both of which were very personal to us. The first was sloe gin which we started making last Autumn just after we got engaged. We both work in healthcare so decided to serve them in old style medicine bottles.
Andre is from Guernsey and we wanted to represent that in some way in our wedding. Andres parents were the ones who discovered this locally made fudge and brought some samples to England for us to try. We thought it was delicious and also loved the fact it is boxed with the Guernsey flag!
If we could offer any advice to other couples planning a wedding?
Bella – The most memorable part of the day for me was arriving at the reception after our wedding photos and seeing everyone on the lawn. The band was playing, canapes and drinks being served, people playing table tennis. It was everything we had put so much work into planning and now we got to see all our family and friends enjoying it.
Andre – I have 2 highlights from the day- the first was saying the vows in front of all out friends and family- and how momentous and special it felt to say them to Bella with everyone watching. My second is probably hearing being on our friends shoulders and watching everyone attempt to dance to Inspector Norse at the evening party!
What a truly lovely English garden wedding! Congratulations Bella and Andre and thanks to Nathalie Delebte Photography for sharing these images.
