Are you tired of seeing the same traditional cakes and want something a little different? Are you wishing to inject your fun personalities into your big day? Here are some novelty wedding cake ideas by Debbie Gillespie Cake Design to do just that!
Woodland
With the recent rise in outdoor and tipi wedding venues; woodland inspiration has become a big trend. Couples are using lots of wood in their decoration to give a rustic natural theme so why not choose a cake to match. If you are an outdoorsy couple, think about what you might see on your favourite walk that you would like to include on your cake – particular flowers, type of trees and even animals, e.g. squirrels or rabbits
Favourite TV/film/books
Are you both mad keen Game of Thrones fans or is Harry Potter more your thing? Chances are that your guests will love it too. You can either go with the full theme or add a little nod by including a character or even just your favourite quotation. If you are a bit nervous about having a complete novelty cake, hiding things at the back of the cake (reveal-style) is a subtle way of adding in your favourite theme but without breaking too much from tradition.
Pets or favourite animals
Your pets may not be allowed at your venue so this is a great way to include them in your celebrations. Include little edible models of them or better still, have them immortalised in polymer clay as a cake topper that you can keep forever.
Favourite places
This has become a popular request for me over the last 18 months, whereby couples are wishing to have their favourite places hand-painted onto their cake. This might have been their first date, their proposal or even the view of their wedding venue. It makes the whole thing completely unique to the couple and can be quite the conversation starter.
Fairies/cherubs/hearts
Cupid is the Latin God of Love and his bow and arrow has long been a symbol of his power – whoever is shot by Cupid’s arrow, has uncontrollable desires. Arrows are a simple addition to any wedding cake but you could go one stage further and include dancing fairies, cute cherubs or even a full heart-shaped cake to show everyone that you are under Cupid’s spell
Yum, makes me hungry looking at these! Love a creative wedding cake, was at a wedding once where the main cake was in the shape of a crow!
Wow, a crow wedding cake. That sounds fabulous and totally up my street. I am glad you like these x
Just seen your wonderful comment Andrea and wanted to say thank you. I create designs that fill me with joy and hopefully appeal to my ideal customers. If I can inspire someone along the way, I am definitely doing something right. Thank you so much again x
