Our inspirational shoot took place on an autumn rainy day at Lauderdale House in Highgate, London. Lauderdale House is a Grade II listed building with a beautiful private garden; it is in a very central location yet offers a secluded setting. We are inspired to have an elegant yet vibrant and inviting wedding, one that is feasible for a micro wedding as much as for a full-size wedding.
Micro Wedding Inspiration: Autumnal Orange, Teal & Gold
We have set on an autumnal palette of orange, teal and gold. The teal colour steals the show on the wedding breakfast table as the linen base colour, contrasted by orange napkins. The colours are reinforced by the floral arrangements, stationery and candles, while intertwined with gold cutlery and candle holders. For an easily achieved sense of luxury and glamour, we have gold gildings on the corners of place cards and menus. To make sure the colours flow through, we use transparent ‘ghost’ chairs in all our settings.
For our wedding altar, we decorate with a flowers-lined beautiful gold arc and lanterns in front of the historical in-house grand piano. The arc is so versatile it also sits well at the top table!
A wedding cannot pass without the mention of florals. Our florist, Clare Oliver Floristry, blends in the flowers of the season including dahlias, roses, chrysanthemums, amaranths and eucalyptus – they smell as gorgeous as they look!
Bridal wear boutique, Gillian Roberts Bridal, chooses a mermaid style Maggie Sottero lace dress for our petite bride, which has an elegant see-through back and lace details on off-shoulder sleeves. A gold tiara is also tailor-made for the occasion. The colour tone of orange and gold also form the base of our bridal makeup, which is a natural but yet glamourous look.
While we can plan for all the details and decorations of a wedding, we cannot plan the weather. It turns out to be a day of consistent rain with a very brief window of dryness. It does not defeat the mood of our day though; with props as simple as white umbrellas we come away with outdoor photos that are no less romantic on a rainy day. All we need is love!
Let’s hear what our real-life couple Persephone and Chris say of their ‘wedding’ experience on the shoot:
“It was a wonderful experience at the photoshoot, especially as a real couple. All our joy and love felt so natural and authentic. Every step of getting ready and reciting our vows was very exciting to be a part of together. We feel like the rain on the day added a little sparkle to a cosy autumn themed wedding. It was cold and rainy outside but with our coats and holding each other we were warm and very content. It was a special day and the moments were captured beautifully”
