From Coast to Castle
When I walk along my local beach, I look across to Hurst Castle and can see on a clear day the lighthouse in all its glory. As an ‘On the Day Wedding Co-ordinator’ who also organises styled photoshoots, I am always on the lookout for ‘DIFFERENT’ locations to shoot at. When Jason, the owner of Hurst Castle said ‘Yes’ to me, I was over the moon…to say the least!

Hurst Castle has two different elements to it, the first one being that it is a castle and the second one being that it has views across to the Isle of Wight and is surrounded quite literally by the sea! With so many photo opportunities and not wanting to miss out on anything, I wanted to incorporate the outside and the inside of the castle in this shoot. Taking advantage of all of the different elements, this shoot made for a combination of relaxed boho styling inside the Tudor Fort, with coastal views, and of course featuring the striking lighthouse.
Roka Bella Rose Weddings created a picnic set-up with a slightly vintage, eclectic, tropical and slightly Moroccan feel to it. Using Tiger Cowrie shells, tortoiseshell champagne coupes, vintage bud vases and candlestick holders with papaya and coconuts, teamed with warm feather edge linens, botanically dyed silk and an antique Chakki table, I think you can see from the images that together, it all just worked!
The stationery, table numbers and place settings were designed by Laurel Designs using handmade paper with torn edges to fit with the natural beach surroundings. Combining driftwood and twine added the perfect feature to the stationery set along with natural linen that had been printed on and wrapped around the invitation – a new technique to Laurel Designs.
Working with the Moroccan boho theme, Maia Sellen Floral Design picked out elements to compliment the styled vibe we were aiming for. Using soft plush grasses, dried dahlias, ferns and rushes amongst wild and luscious foliages, together this added a touch of bejewelled luxury inspired by the perfectly fitting vases and containers used.
A double-height cake was designed by Suzy Blake Cake Atelier using hand-dyed silk ribbon and dried flowers to match the dried flower picnic styling.
Our bride model wore a beautiful boho styled dress by designer Martina Liana from Minster Bridal Design. A loose romantic boho braid styled by Carina Allen-Jones Artistry looked perfect with the delicate hand-beaded beach themed hair vine created by White Designs and matched with freshwater pearl and Swarovski crystal cluster earrings.
It may have been a bit of a grey day, but to match the colour of the sea our groom wore a light blue tweed three-piece suit with matching bow tie, supplied by Charles Gale Formal Wear Hire – very dapper!
Every supplier has their own style, and it is very important to me to work with the suppliers that suit the theme and styling of the photoshoot. Having organised many different styled shoots over the last few years I have got to know many Hampshire & Dorset based suppliers and have learnt about their individual styles and how they work. From my photoshoot experiences, I knew exactly who I wanted to work with on this shoot and as you can see from the gallery, everyone’s work was perfectly suited for this ‘one of a kind’ photoshoot.
