Covid Restricted Destination Wedding in Austria with an Indian Summer Theme: Charlotte & Oliver

Covid Restricted Wedding

We planned the our covid restricted wedding for 86 guests originally. However, we had to cancel it entirely in spring because of the uncertainty coming with Covid, especially when travelling to another country is involved.

Austria slowly opened up and for a short time even allowed big weddings. We decided that we would put the nuptials back on but only with 50 people in total to make sure it can go ahead. Thank God it could, but due to travel restrictions, quarantine, and late notice, only 27 guests attended.

Socially Distanced Wedding

We still think it turned out beautifully, although it was smaller than we expected it to be. However, the advantage of such an intimate wedding is that every single person’s presence is even more appreciated. We held the wedding reception in the largest room in the castle to make sure, people were able to practice social distancing.

Thanks to Sandra, everything else worked surprisingly well, and the venue was super flexible, which helped a lot. I am sure there were many phone calls and emails we never saw. This fact brings me back to: hire a wedding planner! Especially during these uncertain times, it is invaluable support.

First Look

Our first look on the little terrace of the castle was one of the most memorable moments of the day. We were both so nervous before, but then suddenly all was easy and like it was meant to be that way.

The Planning & Decor

From hiring a florist and a wedding designer we changed to just hiring one person who could do it all. We elaborated with Sandra what we wanted (autumn colours, but not dark – an Indian Summer theme) and then Sandra suggested to match everything with my ginger hair. The result was just perfect. Sandra worked with My Dekostories who then took care of the bouquets, all the décor and also the flowers for the cake.

Wedding Favours

The tables we laid with flowers, candles, crystal glasses and golden cutlery. As wedding favours my mom and I made our own soap with lavender picked from our country house. Sandra asked the hotel to place it in the rooms of our guests.

Words of Wisdom

You can organise everything on your own, but there is a reason why wedding planners exist. They have the connections, the knowledge and are calm during the whole process. Whenever you think – oh dear, how??? – Sandra was always calm and just did her job so it all worked out perfectly; especially the last few weeks before the wedding and with all the drama Covid caused, we were able to lean back knowing tasks were being taken care of.

What a lovely take on an autumn themed wedding. Loving the simple indian summer wedding vibe. Congratulations Charlotte & Oliver.
