What to wear as a wedding guest – the perfect outfit

There’s no doubt that weddings post-Covid are going to be celebrated in so many different ways and so we’re going to guide you through the dos and don’ts of wedding guest outfits for 2021 summer, autumn and winter.

What kind of dress do you wear to a wedding?

You’ve been invited to a wedding in the summer and you still haven’t chosen your dress. Do you choose a full length floral dress, or a gold cocktail dress? It doesn’t have to be a headache or stressful, you just have to know what you feel comfortable in for the big day and then work out a few factors to help you decide:

Dressing for a big garden marquee wedding

The dress code for a summer marquee wedding is less formal that an autumn or winter vibe and we’ve found some of this year’s stylish and chic outfits here.

This gorgeous 1950s style cap sleeve printed dress, with its “just below the knee” and cleverly designed waist-cinch enhances just the right curves of your body and hides the naughty bits. It’s a gorgeous daytime vintage style dress that is an easy winner for nighttime dancing too. Add a kitten heel or Mary Jane shoe to complement the dress, with an elegant hat to set off the wedding guest attire, and you’ve got yourself a winner.

Mother of the Bride Dress Ideas

This is a biggie for any mother and it’s so important to get it right for your daughter’s big day. Any wedding is so much fun to dress for, but the mother of the bride..! It’s nearly as important as the bride dress itself. White dresses? If your daughter is wearing a bright red satin evening gown then, by all means, wear white but always be sure to never show your daughter up with a dress that’s more stunning than hers! Gold is a great way of standing out from the crowd, enjoying a shoulder style that looks formal yet positively Grace Kelly when it comes to sheer style.

Winter Weddings – what colours are you NOT supposed to wear to a wedding?

Times have changed and this year has seen so many different colour mixes being thrown into the party pot. When it comes to the wedding day that’s been in your diary for a while now, you need outfit ideas, and wearing white, although will definitely help you stand out from the crowd, probably isn’t the best choice.

This particular season of love means there are even more choices of bold colours, the delicious long sleeve, deep v neck sensuality shown off via a velvet wrap dress. Check what colour the bride is wearing, and if you can, have a look at the interior of the venue because it might help you decide what colour and style of dress to choose. An old castle might be complemented by deep red velvet, a bright decor in a plush hotel could set off shimmering sequin on emerald green. Pastels won’t do you justice for a winter wedding, so as a wedding guest, think of Kate Middleton in her winter coats, there’s definitely a Doctor Zhivago element to it.

Whether or not you’d like your look to be low key or more of a formal dress outfit, ultimately what do you want to wear? What makes you feel special, beautiful and yet comfortable? Wear something that you will feel like a queen for the day. Fashion for weddings should be fun, choosing a style to suit your personality and body shape is always a good thing to do anyway, so why not research and if you know a certain shade of blue shows off your eyes, then work around the colour. If you know you feel confident looking through ASOS dresses, then do your research there! A vintage look doesn’t mean old and frumpy, who doesn’t love a party tea dress with lace at the right length for your legs.

Winter Wedding Guest Coat Ideas

Overcoats are perfect to complement a dress; never leave this aspect of your attire to the last minute because wearing a gorgeous gown with your hair styled, beautiful shoes and then you throw an old coat over the top simply won’t do.

Why not match an occasion coat to go with your dress? Bombshell HQ offer just that.

We love tailored navy coats, faux fur stoles and shawls, and cropped jackets for a more formal black-tie wedding. If you have a hooled leather jacket – they too can set a look off – very boho!

Can you wear a jumpsuit or suit as a wedding guest?

Well the men probably will be wearing a suit, unless you’re going to celebrate the wedding in Scotland. Then it’s kilts all the way.

The world is becoming more and more progressive and fluid which in turn means we don’t have to conform to wedding guest dresses if we really don’t feel comfortable. Not all women like to wear dresses, so luckily there are some amazing brands out there to fit any dress code. Floral print, not your thing? Little slip dress make you shudder? Flowing satin shoulder midi dress send you into a spin? Here are few wedding guest fashion statements that are sassy, and could fit into dress codes for any party or event.

The men (or women) might be in black-tie but the gorgeous maxi jumpsuits and chic, but understated suits that are in vogue now, will offer a real show stopper style and allow you to feel able to relax and enjoy the occasion. Wedding guest dresses and suits have never been so much fun to shop for!

Now we are coming through the pandemic let’s have fun with dress codes and simply celebrate the best wedding events we are invited to. Wedding season is back on the agenda!
