The new year is here, and with it comes an entirely new wave of wedding trends. With lockdowns and social restrictions behind us, excitement, anticipation, and of course, love is in the air. That’s right, weddings are back, and it is set to be the biggest wedding season yet! Engaged couples can finally savour the wedding planning experience and look forward to celebrating their special day how they want when they want. And with hundreds of thousands of weddings rescheduled for this year, it is more important than ever to make your big day one to remember.
We have been keeping a close eye on the ever-evolving wedding scene to bring you our predictions for the hottest trends of 2022. There are new styles on the horizon, as well as a few favourites that are here to stay. And we are delighted to be able to share our inside info with you! From earthy tones to Bridgerton blue and more, discover all the latest wedding themes and how to incorporate them into your stationery and décor.
Green nature-inspired weddings
As a nation, we found ourselves spending more time in the open air than ever before during the pandemic. This had an undeniable impact on our appreciation of nature in post-lockdown life. This renewed love of the countryside has filtered its way into wedding trends too, with couples keener than ever to bring the outdoors indoors.
With an emphasis on sustainability, fiancés are favouring green colour schemes with just hints of the pastels that previously dominated the scene. White or natural coloured tablecloths and runners are decorated with pinecones, acorns, conkers and lots of leafy foliage. The luscious greens of ivy and local vegetation is complemented by the warm and earthy hues of terracotta, honey, rust, coffee and caramel. Some couples even took up pyrography (wood carving) during isolation and have chosen to make their own artistic table favours from wood slices!
Consider pairing your simple, shiny crockery with matte or textured stationery for the perfect outdoors–indoors aesthetic. A hint of sparkle will be picked up by your soft mood lighting to lift the room, so think gold edging on your crockery or foil embellishments on your stationery. To introduce harmony across your reception dining tables, you could decorate your toasting tipples and table wines with our “Delicate Greenery” wedding wine labels, or perhaps create neat napkin bundles centred around these “Sweet Melody” wedding menus. Classic and timeless: the perennial wedding fashion
Some wedding styles just never get old, and that is certainly true of this next beloved trend. The classic wedding theme is ideal for any season including winter and features strong, deep colours such as pine green and midnight blue. The popularity of Bridgerton and the regency period has seen the shade of regency blue become extremely à la vogue, and we love to see it creeping back into timeless wedding tablescapes too. British ceramics and dainty delftware are accompanied by blue linen and copper detailing to create a welcoming yet sophisticated wedding ambience. Complete the look with contrasting ambient lighting to highlight the stunning features of your wedding venue and décor.
As for the flowers, minimalist sprigs with delicate petals will never go out of fashion. Gypsophila, Lavender, Astrantia, Eryngium Thistle and Nigella (also known as love-in-a-mist) are just a few of our favourites that you can find echoed in our stationery. Our “Pleasant Pastures” wedding invitations, for example, feature wreaths of humble wildflowers for a simple, home-from-home feel.
Reading became a very popular pastime during the long months of isolation, and we are starting to see more and more literary influences in couples’ wedding décor. Our “Your Day, Your Way” (Bookmark) wedding invitations beautifully capture this, with personalisable clipart to help you write your own love story and a detachable bookmark for your wedding guests to treasure. As well as graphics, understated stationery featuring calligraphy as seen in our “Ever Thine, Ever Mine” save the dates has become a signature style of classic weddings. The name of this collection was inspired by the famous love letter written by Beethoven, and you can’t get more classic than that.
Bright florals and boho receptions
After years of adapting to a changing world, the unconventional has become the new normal in wedding themes too. The intimate ceremonies that were a condition of lockdown weddings have now become a desirable outcome, with newly betrothed couples choosing to share their wedding day with immediate family and friends only to make the moment all the more special. Anniversary receptions are taking place as newlyweds celebrate their first year of marriage with everyone they wished could have attended the wedding itself. While other couples are compensating for all those missed gatherings and celebrations in a big way, with plans to party and revel long into the evening to make up for lost time! Get ready for bohemian receptions with rustic outdoor seating, garden party games and other unusual entertainment.
When it comes to décor, the main element in boho-chic weddings is the bold, bright flowers. Centrepieces will feature petals in coral, fuchsia, cerulean and violet to match the bridal bouquets and flower crowns. Picture Sea Lavender, Buttercups, Green Hydrangeas, Waxflowers interspersed with olive branches for unique floral arrangements that demand admiration! Why not choose plain or rustic handmade pottery for your tableware to ensure your colourful table linen really pops? Antique furniture is in, with quirky cutlery and mismatched china a popular choice too. And to add to the romance of the occasion, dim the lighting and opt for subtle highlights with fairy lights or electric candles.
Our collection of bohemian wedding invitations has something for every happy, hippy couple, boasting beautiful watercolours, whimsical illustrations and cheerful colour schemes. Our “Lovely Newlyweds” wedding invitations will inspire you to pick a venue with a tree swing entwined with flowers, perfect for snapping some romantic photos of you and your husband or wife. For a spring wedding, you could share all the details of the day using our “Floral Frame” (Classic Gatefold) wedding invitations complete with a detachable guest information card and bordered by gorgeous watercolour flowers. Sticking with the same theme, our “Your Day In Watercolour” (Bookmark) wedding thank you cards are sure to charm you and your guests with all the flora and feminine fonts you could ask for.
