The UK’s most Romantic Honeymoon Destinations
If you’re planning a romantic getaway with that special person in your life, you might be tempted to pull out all the stops and venture overseas. But the truth is that there’s an abundance of beautiful locations in the UK, many of which are certain to kindle a spark of romance – whether it’s on a honeymoon, an anniversary trip, or just a spontaneous weekend away.
York
Few cities in the UK can rival York when it comes to historical and cultural significance. There’s breathtaking architecture to marvel at, a wealth of high-class restaurants, and you’re just a short drive from the famous moorland. Naturally, York is also fairly accessible from across the country, thanks to its central railway station, making it perfect for an impromptu getaway.
Cornwall
Cornwall is a little more on the remote side, but it’s the sense of isolation that’s helped to shape the local culture, and it’s part of what makes Cornwall so unmistakable and unique. There are long stretches of coastland to explore, unspoilt beaches to wander down at sunset, and, if the weather’s favourable, a chance to sit and eat ice cream in the sun. You can also enjoy dark-sky stargazing experiences. Then, of course, there are the famous pasties!
The Cotswolds
The Cotswolds is an assortment of picturesque little villages, connected by gorgeous little canals and bridleways. You’ll find plenty of little botanical gardens and areas of natural beauty. If you’re the sort of couple that likes to wander across the countryside and explore what’s on offer, then it’s difficult to beat the Cotswolds.
Devon
Much like neighbouring Cornwall, Devon boasts some of the country’s most remarkable coastline – but it has the virtue of being a little bit more accessible and urbanised. You can explore the Cathedral in Exeter, take a ride on the Dartmouth Steam Railway, or contemplate the exhibits at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery.
The Lake District
If you’re the sort of couple that prefers an outdoor break, then there are a few parts of the UK which might appeal. The Hebrides offer incredible hill-walking opportunities, as do Snowdonia and the Pennines. But the Lake District just pips them thanks to its accessibility and the gorgeous series of lakes from which it takes its name. If you’re going to spend time on a boat, then this is a wonderful place to do it. Make sure that you pick up a map and research the walks you’d like to do before you get started. There are many wonderful cottages and bed-and-breakfasts to sample in the region, so book as early as possible.
