Wildflowers, Hessian & Hops: A Country Wedding: Georgia & Steve

Wildflowers, hessian and hops make for a wonderful rustic inspired wedding for any self-respecting country wedding! Georgia and Steve had a lovely relaxed day with DIY details and an incredible dress with a 50% off tag…

As soon as we pulled up and saw the grade 1 listed ivy-clad manor and the doves nestling on the rooftop of the dovecote we thought Woodhall Manor in Sutton, Suffolk was something special. The venue provided great options for whether we decided to have the ceremony indoors or outside.

I snagged a bargain with my wedding dress in the January sales – haha! There are bargains to be had on the high street.

The 50% discount on the dress made it the most appealing! But honestly, I loved the detail on the back, and it was easy to dance in which was a bonus.

Steve went to a bespoke tweed out fitters in East London for his suit he also wore a Royal London pocket watch and Stag cufflinks from Not on the High Street.

My Dad walked me down the aisle – we had a banjo and guitar instrumental version of ‘Like The Wheel’ by the Tallest Man on Earth – who we listened to all the time in the early days when we first got together.

We were on the most amazing holiday driving the Wild Atlantic Way route up the west coast of Ireland, which is incredibly scenic. Steve popped the question on the last day of the holiday with the help of a small video he had put together of so many special moments we’ve had since the birth of our daughter.

Through a friend of a friend, we managed to find a local florist called Julie that arranged some stunning wild flower bouquets and arrangements. She totally got the rustic country theme we were going for and was lovely.

Our wedding photographers were Him and Her Photography – we came across them through an organic search online and instantly loved their unique take on wedding photography.

They were so much fun to work with and have around on the day. They made everybody feel at complete ease and the photographs are stunning.

We are cheese people and decided we didn’t want a traditional wedding cake, so we opted for a “cheese” cake which my dad carefully selected and arranged.

We found a lady online that made the small mice wedding toppers and we were able to customise it so that the mice had the same outfits as we did.

We wanted to have a rustic/ country theme wedding as we were in the countryside. The venue itself is quite grand and we wanted to keep the rest of it quite relaxed with a DIY feel.

For decor, we used log slice centrepieces with a vase of wildflowers, hessian-wrapped tea lights and sprigs of ivy. The table names were all types of hops in honour of the wedding beer. We just scattered as many jam jars of tea lights around the rooms as we could.

Steve is keen home-brewer and we thought it could be fun to make a “Just Hitched IPA” wedding brew for the wedding favours.

It was a long labour of love but looked great at the end and tasted fab (as always)…
