A Simple Outdoor Wedding in Provence: Alex & Mark

Alex and Mark had a simply styled, outdoor wedding in the South of France, Provence. Inspired by the simplicity of a classic French wedding, Alex wore a silk wedding dress by Andrea Hawkes and a pair of baby blue show-stopping heels by the renowned Sophia Webster. The decor was elegant with mini olive trees, a relaxed outdoor seating area and a classic rose and lavender bouquet.

Magically captured by Nordica Photography – if you adore outdoor weddings with a simple, relaxed style, you will love this alfresco wedding.

Alex’s parents live in Provence. We wanted to get married in the area where they lived. La Bastide offered a perfect opportunity for a beautiful outdoor wedding reception, in a venue that had a fantastic reputation for looking after their guests.

My wedding dress was by Andrea Hawkes. I wanted it to be comfortable in the warm weather so I chose silk. The fabric glistened in the sun and even when in low light. I like simplicity and elegance and so my dress was very simple.

Alex’s Father walked me down the aisle. There was no music as it was the mayor’s office, and it was more of functional.

For the centre tables, we had baby olive trees. We wanted our wedding to be sympathetic to rural Provence and tie in with the landscape and not look overly manicured.

We also did not want to spend thousands on cut flowers. At the end of the day, my parents, my grandmother and my aunt who all live in the south of France took the trees home which are now all planted in their gardens.

Our wedding photographer Cole from Nordica planned and executed the photos perfectly. We wanted to avoid excessively posed, endless group shots. Fantastic photography.

Mixing with our guests on the lawn of the Bastide was one of our most memorable moments.

Our advice to other brides and or grooms getting married would be clear about what you would like, don’t feel that you have to organise your wedding in a certain way because others have done it that way.

Give your guests the opportunity to meet and enjoy themselves. We had a very long cocktail session (3 hours) on the lawn before we sat down to eat. This enabled everyone to get around and talk to each other.
