Alice in Wonderland Wedding Ideas

I had a childhood love for Alice in Wonderland, and this led me to dream of a new magical experience that I could offer; and more specifically, to provide inspiration for Alice in Wonderland wedding ideas.

The vision was to create a styled shoot in one day but with 2 parts, the first being a Vibrant and Quirky Mad Hatter’s Tea Party then a second being a more ethereal and quintessentially English Rose styled Bridal Alice shoot, more romantic and dreamier with a gentler nod to the Alice theme, it is this part of the vision we bring to you today…

To give my clients a taste of the Creative possibilities available to them, I called upon an incredible team of specifically handpicked creative professionals

I had The Milwards Estate in mind as the venue as I had seen the stunning outdoor grounds before. Clare, the owner and host of the Venue invited me to explore the surroundings and I discovered the perfect spot for the upcoming shoot, right by the side of the stunning lake. I knew immediately that this was going to be the perfect setting for our ‘Bridal Alice’ part of the day, the sun was going to be lower in the sky at this point of the day and we were keen to capture these beautiful dreamy images with the last rays of summer sun behind the lake, it was as if it was meant to be!

Collaboration

I was so excited as I could already envisage exactly how this would look with the collaboration of the talented team that was coming together. I imagined our English Rose Alice, but with a Queen of Hearts Celebrant, I really wanted the props and characters along with the setting to bring it all alive. I also wanted to create something that was slightly edgy, a little creative, inspirational to others and be really fun and memorable.

The lead up to the day; all the planning, zoom meetings, chats and new ideas, was so much fun. Everyone involved really owned their aspect, brought so much enthusiasm and got so creative and inventive.

The day of the shoot arrived, and the crew and cast descended on the estate. The weather was glorious, and we immediately began the fun of setting the stage (well, the table really!). My pretty vintage crockery and props graced the table along with wonderland themed props, stationery and tasty treats.

Artificial florals by Julie created a gentle blush of colour and texture on, and around the table, and mirrors and other sparkling props sparkled magically catching the summer sunshine of the last rays of the day. We obviously needed to bring the scene alive and for that, we required models and costumes.

Alice

Rhianna (our Alice) is the Daughter of our photographer, and when we saw photos of her, we knew she would make the perfect English Rose version of our Alice! At 5.10’ she would also beautifully ‘carry’ the bridal dress from the Gorgeous Fross collection that we had in mind. The wedding dress was simple and elegant so as not to distract from the scenery and props, and would really show off the gorgeous detailing and liquid flow of the veil.

Anita (our Queen of Hearts) is no stranger to dressing up! She treads the boards most years in local pantomimes and has such a fun personality. As an actual wedding celebrant, she was the perfect choice for our Queen of Hearts.

We are so lucky to have a local fancy dress and costume shop. It would have been rude not to ask Donna to help out, and she jumped at the chance! Her collection is amazing, and she has a real eye for detail. Although the wedding dress was supplied by Fross, Donna supplied some fun striped tights and quirky shoes – just peeking out from underneath the dress for a bit of quirky wonderland fun. Our Queen of Hearts flounced around in her high collared dress complete with tutu skirt and a spectacular wig.

Details

Our characters would not be complete without the skills of a hair and makeup artist. Emese got her hands on them to finish the transformation. She worked true magic giving each model a dramatic look perfect for their role. She made the most of Rhianna’s beautiful long hair, creating a mermaid-like flowing mass of gentle curls and adding the stunning embroidered veil created by Annemarie.

Amy was given the shoot details and ran with the Wonderland theme. She created the most perfect stationery including invitations, table settings and menus. All the details were exquisite, and her calligraphy is amazing. If I was lucky enough to receive one of these invitations, I would be so excited!

My vintage cake stands and china plates would have looked rather naked without Val’s tasty delights. Afternoon tea ‘wonderland style’ included flamingo cookies and toadstool cupcakes, and of course, our showstopping wedding cake, on a natural woodland, tree bark theme with foliage and berries. Val encapsulated the theme in delicious perfection.

Photography

Of course, we needed to capture this magical scene. I’d seen Alison’s work previously and just knew she was the photographer for the job. As AlisonWonderland Photography she also has the perfect name!

When she agreed, I was so excited about what was to come. Alison worked closely with the team ensuring that everyone’s speciality was featured. She guided the models creating some spectacular shots. Alison captured the day better than I could ever have imagined and continued the work afterwards with her dreamy editing and a few special added effects with the magic of photoshop (she is referred to locally as the Digital Queen of Arts!)

It was an absolute delight to work with so many creative and talented suppliers and to see my vision come to life.

Magical

I truly cannot wait to recreate this set-up for others to enjoy. This would work so well for a variety of events. Weddings obviously, but why not let your imagination run wild! Themed hen parties, reunions and even Birthday Tea Parties would be just magical in Wonderland… Follow us down the Rabbit hole and join in the fun… but don’t be late…
