Mountainside Wedding With Interactive Wall of Flowers Decor: Sasha & Tom
We knew we wanted to bring in friends and family to celebrate together in one place. We were inspired by the love and community that surrounds us. That became even more of an important detail when we were forced to postpone our wedding because of COVID. We wanted this to be a beautiful gathering to celebrate love.

Dress Shopping
I bought a dress at a shop I thought I liked – but it wasn’t me. I spent so much time trying to find a new dress and I just couldn’t find the right dress until on a whim, I tried on this big puffy dress – and it worked.
It was the most “me” dress I could have ever found. I had always dress shopped on my own and when I brought my friends in to see this dress, they all knew it was the dress for me!
Music
As a gift, my father had a piece of music commissioned by a friend of ours who is a composer. She named the piece “Radical Idea” after our communication tool. Since I work for the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, it was a great way to express our love.
Instead of readings, we had the piece played for the audience during the ceremony. As the music played, we passed our rings around the audience tied in the O’Keeffe family tartan so our friends and family could bestow upon them love and well wishes.
Our Dog
In June our 13-year-old dog broke his paw. We spent the summer navigating a hectic work schedule, the final push of planning a wedding, and taking care of his health (about 3 vet appointments a week for 8 weeks. It was rough). Out of all of the amazing memories with friends and family, having him at our wedding was truly a feat in itself.
We invited his former dog walker and his vet to not only celebrate with us but help us get him home after the ceremony. Getting to spend that time with him after he’d been through so much with me (Sasha) was so meaningful, especially since he passed away about a month later. Those photos were amazing.
Escort Cards
I personally loved our flowers and escort cards. I had this idea from a long time ago that the escort cards would be flowers of all sizes. When everyone gathered together at the table, the flowers would fill out the table among the candles and decor. It was perfect! The wall of flowers welcoming everyone was such a great way to greet our guests.
Dessert
We worked with a local bakery to make doughnuts. This was the first wedding they’d ever done but they were amazing and everyone talked about them. We had the Lake Champlain Chocolate ice cream truck (a last-minute favour from a working relationship because our previous ice cream truck was double booked.) The doughnuts and ice cream were a match made in dessert heaven!
Words of wisdom
Pick the three things that matter to you and then let other things go. Don’t let others’ input or opinions change your priorities if you don’t want to. This is your wedding, not theirs – even if they’re paying for it.
