When we first came to Morzine in 2017 for our summer holidays, we fell in love with this pretty village, the people and its beautiful landscapes. We kept coming back regularly every summer and the idea of getting married in the heart of the mountains in Morzine became obvious. We felt so much at home each time we came.
When we decided to get married in Morzine, we wanted to find somewhere special, where we would feel at home. We came across a wonderful photograph of a garden with stunning views.
Turned out it was a magnificent 18th-century farmhouse with a large garden in the heart of Morzine, in a quiet corner but still close to everything in the village, a real haven of peace. The gardens provide an incredible view of Morzine’s pretty old town and the Avoriaz mountains beyond, and inside there’s a wonderfully warm atmosphere.
We were also able to have photos taken at one of our favourite local beauty spots – an incredible Alpine lake, called Lac Montriond – where we had spent many happy times on our previous holidays.
We liked the idea of having a mini-holiday with our family, and booking The Farmhouse Hotel exclusively enabled us to achieve this perfectly. We kicked off with a barbeque at the lake on Friday, had the wedding on Saturday and enjoyed Sunday with our guests.
Wedding in the Mountains
We wanted a beautiful secular ceremony in the garden of The Farmhouse, surrounded by our closest family and friends in summer. A friend was our celebrant and thanks to her and our guests we experienced a magnificent ceremony filled with surprises and emotional moments. My father gave me away.
Our wedding came together very naturally in a rustic, boho style, but if we are honest we didn’t give much attention to a style, we were inspired by the natural setting and beauty of the area. The stunning mountain backdrop did a fantastic job!
We were looking for joyful and fresh colours. In the run up to the wedding I found pretty vases at flea markets to put on the wedding table.
Wood and greenery were important elements of the decoration. In addition, we wanted a soft atmosphere with lots of lights. The Farmhouse is already so beautiful, that it was a decorative element by itself.
The Farmhouse Manager, James, told us about Eight Bells Wedding Photography, so we went online to see their work and loved their photography. We fell in love with the atmosphere that emerges from their photographs. For us, they perfectly knew how to bring out the emotion of the moment and its authenticity.
We recommend every future bride and groom to celebrate their wedding in a way that truly reflects themselves. Don’t be afraid of judgment from the outside, even if your wedding project is out of the ordinary. We really wanted to get married surrounded by an intimate group of closest people over a weekend (Friday to Sunday), which allowed us to take advantage of getting to chat to everyone and have a great time! We were able to enjoy time with all of our guests and the whole event felt like a mini holiday.
