This super lucky couple married in a castle! Yes, they had their own little castle to play in… from the day before the wedding until the day after! Lynsey and Juan married at Wedderburn Castle, Berwick Upon Tweed on a beautiful sunny, sunny day. Their day had a subtle 1920s influence to it and Lynsey wore the gorgeous, intricately embellished ‘Eden’ by Jenny Packham…

We were inspired by the 1920s. My engagement ring is a bit art deco, then my dress had a 20s feel, as did the bridesmaid’s dresses. We picked the calla lilies which complimented them, so it just came together like that. We never intended to have a theme, it just naturally evolved.
I was drawn to the vintage inspired style of the Jenny Packham dresses, and when I tired on Eden, it felt like I was wearing a dress which was true to my personal style and was comfortable, whilst different and special. I felt lovely in it. The most lovely I have ever felt. I didn’t know a wedding dress could be like that. I was nervous about finding a dress because I was worried I would not find something I really loved. As it happens I did, and I only had to visit one shop to find it.
My heels were neutral coloured. I wanted the dress to be the main event.
My headpiece was a Jenny Packham jewelled head piece, the Acacia I. I also wore a pearl necklace belonging to my mum and pearl earrings (a present from my mum), and my engagement ring.
Gemma and Helen from Blush were fabulous, they kept us well entertained whilst they pampered us, we were delighted with the results!
We all arrived in Scotland and at the venue the day before the wedding, and enjoyed exclusive use of it. (a few of us took a trip to Edinburgh zoo first to see the Pandas who were on great form!) We settled in in the afternoon before the wedding and had a BBQ/ feast in the courtyard to welcome the guests. We really made ourselves at home at Wedderburn, not leaving until midday the day after the wedding. It was like a two day house party.
My dad walked me down the aisle whilst a string quartet played The Tryst by James MacMillan. We didn’t have reference to being ‘given away‘ in the ceremony.
My sister Heather and my best friend Rhian wore long sleeved, v-back, beaded deep coral coloured dresses from Miss Selfridge and vintage style leaf design earrings from Topshop, they were both discovered by Heather.
The venue is so beautiful, and full of character and period features and furniture, that we decided there wasn’t anything we needed to add, other than the flowers. We had a lovely dramatic display in the entrance hall, with lots of foliage put around the grand staircase.
I knew nothing about flowers, luckily Rosemary is a complete expert. I wanted something quite dramatic, and calla lilies are simple but striking. Also, as the dresses had a 1920s feel so the lilies went well with them. We also had freesias and eucalyptus, because I love the smell!
We made little packets of wild flower seeds for people to scatter in their gardens.We bought lovely card, made little envelopes to put the seeds in and used raffia to tie them together.
Cathie made us the most delicious and beautiful cake.
A tier of fruit cake and a tier of lemon sponge. The fruit cake was heavenly. It was square and decorated with calla lilies in icing.
Our wedding photographer was the very cool and funny Craig McBeath of McBeth Photography. He’s a top man and a brilliant photographer. Booking him was one of the best decisions we made.
If we could impart any words of wisdom? As we were having a small wedding away from home, we could be flexible on the day. We had a midweek wedding, and not only was it cheaper for some of the services, we were also able to get all our first choices on providers. It’s worth considering doing it midweek. Also, I would recommend an intimate wedding. It was a personal affair. There was no pressure, it was casual and relaxed, and that made us feel relaxed so we could just enjoy our time in the castle with our nearest and dearest..
Our most memorable parts of the day? The ceremony was lovely. Having the champagne reception outside in the beautiful sunshine was also a highlight. The speeches were lovely and hilarious and the ceilidh was very memorable, we were shambolic, but we had so much fun!

Allestri String Quartet played during the ceremony and during our champagne reception on the lawn in the glorious sunshine. Simon Armitage played the piano and sang for us in the drawing room after the wedding breakfast, and the Scott Leslie ceilidh band were very patient in playing and calling the dances whilst we failed miserably at trying to follow their instruction, but we had such a laugh and a pretty good workout!
