It’s always so lovely to feature a bride who’s a follower of the WTW blog and gorgeous Kate married Richard at Trinity Church, in Sloane Square in London. Their laid back, DIY reception followed afterwards, at The Rose in Vauxhall.
Kate’s dress is magical, all that lace… like seriously, wow! And I do admire a gal who gets stuck in to her wedding decor. The lovely Kate and friends made tons of bunting and sourced and arranged their own flowers too… it’s all totally gorgeous, check it out.
Words by Kate
What a man, what a friend, what a husband-to-be! He’s the messiest and most lovable man you will ever meet and he’s a liability on the dancefloor…
Hate to admit to this but we met for the 1st time at a Karaoke bar in Clapham … Love is not blind, love is however, deaf :) His best friend made him run after me before I got on the bus to get my number and the rest is history. Nobody has made me laugh more or could make me even half as happy.

Richard (Skel to his mates) proposed to me at the Olympics on the 10th August 2012. It was amazing and so cool to be watching the games without anyone else knowing our news! On the 11th we went to Hatton Gardens to choose the ring together.
My older brothers walked me down the aisle, they are non-identical twins and have been amazing fathers/ brothers to me! I walked down the aisle to Ave Maria by Schubert, it was sung by a soloist in our choir and really got the tears going!
I chose my wedding dress as I love lace and vintage styling and felt it ticked those 2 boxes as it had a real Spanish feel to it too. I grew up there until I was 12 and wanted elements of that to come through in my day. Plus my future mother-in-law, my mum and sister were all there at the fitting and started crying at that particular outfit and once they added the veil I got teary too! Think after that there was no turning back…
We decorated our wedding venue with Papel Picados from Caoba – amazing service, speed and price. We also used bunting from Bunting Boutique and homemade loads more bunting and table runners out of doilies which we sourced on eBay!
We made our own wedding favours buying lots of Jagermeister (a hockey team favourite- my husband was captain of local team) and mini bottles from here: www.jbconline.co.uk. We decorated them with raffia and tissue paper.
For the children and pregnant ladies I made mini tin buckets of lindt gold wrapped chocolates.
I adore peonies and after a scout out with my event planner best friend we knew what to go with: spray roses, peonies, sweetpeas, ivy and lots of tiny daisies and wild looking flowers in the palest of pinks and whites for a bridal, pretty and girlie touch :)
I found Bloomfield Wholesale Florist Ltd in New Covent Garden Market had the loveliest displays and were willing to help me with my budget and the mood board pics I showed them.
Dancing to ‘Time of My Life’ with my mum before she headed home was one of the most memorable moments of my wedding.
Our wedding photographers, Our Labour Of Love were relaxed, not at all intrusive or in the way and gave us a pack filled with pictures we loved – we could not recommend them more!
If you could impart any words of wisdom for future brides what would they be?
It’s your day, do not let anyone tell you what to do, stick to your guns and however nightmarish it seems all will come together on the day! Oh and don’t be afraid to ask for help!
My mum was diagnosed with advanced cancer 6 weeks before my wedding and I never would have come through all the stress, tears & planning without the continued help and support of my besties. It was a goal for mum and a huge incentive for me to make my day perfect and it really, really was!
Massive congrats Mr & Mrs Skelhorn, a.k.a Skate ;) Looks like you had the best day ever, thanks so much for sharing with the WTW blog.
Ladies, gents… please do leave this lovely couple some love…
