A Gorgeous Antique & Vintage Finds DIY Wedding in an Apple Orchard: Jess & Zach

Jess’ love for antiques is what inspired her wedding day! Thankfully she had a pretty good collection to start with, as well as friends and family that were willing to lend her lots of their pieces.

Originally she planned on blush being hers and Zack’s ‘colour,’ but soon realized that it is easier to not have a colour theme and that a mismatched, eclectic scheme was the way to go.

”The Orchard” also know as the Chilliwack Corn Maze, in Chilliwack, BC, Canada was our wedding venue. We chose this venue because we wanted an outdoor summer wedding that was casual and fun.

I loved that my wedding dress was simple, elegant and one of a kind! It was lightweight, comfortable, and hand made by the very talented, Merly, of Ellebay bridal.

My step dad walked me the first half, then my biological father walked me the rest of the way and gave me away.

Zach and I got engaged at the end of January and completely lucked out on getting our venue for the summer of 2015! Originally we thought that we would have to wait to get married the next summer but that all changed when ‘The Orchard’ received a cancellation near the end of February.

The day they received the cancellation was the same day we were meeting with the owners to schedule a date for summer 2016, and of course we couldn’t turn it down, which meant I had a lot of work to do to make our dreams a reality. Because we had little time to save/plan for our wedding, and I’m a bit of a control freak, we did all the planning and day of preparations, ourselves.

Luckily we had our venue the entire day before our wedding day, which allowed us to spend the day with family and friends getting the venue ready for the big day. If it wasn’t for all their hard work we never could have pulled it all off. My entire family thought I was insane when 2 huge trailers full of stuff pulled up to the venue, but once it was all put together they understood completely!

We lucked out on getting Nordica as our photographers. With only 5 months to plan our wedding it was difficult to find a photographer in the area that still had an opening. We were referred to Nordica through Mike and Shari, two local photographers (a husband/wife team) we met at a wedding show. Cole is originally from BC, but now lives in Sweden, and was scheduled to come back to Vancouver for the summer to shoot weddings – so it worked out perfectly! We instantly fell in love with Nordica’s Style, all of their photos are so natural, and real,  which is what we wanted for our big day.

And if we didn’t hit the jackpot with these guys already, just a couple weeks before our wedding day, they emailed us asking if we would mind having a second shooter, as their friend Danelle, from New Zealand, was going to be in Vancouver on vacation. Danelle is insanely talented as well, so once again we lucked out!

Cole and Danelle did the most amazing job of capturing our day and we couldn’t be happier with the results.

Lots of antiques were used in the styling of our wedding! We brought 2 huge trailers of stuff to try and fill up our massive venue

We brought a bunch of antique couches, and arms chairs for guest to sit on, including the love seat my husband and I sat on at our, that table belonged to my great aunt who passed away in spring 2015.

The chandelier backdrop that stood behind the head table was constructed by my husband out of pipe. Then we just added some lace curtains to it and a couple chandeliers. It was definitely my favourite decorative piece from the wedding.

I also lined the head tables with a long lace overlay that draped over the sides. I put italian ruscus running down it, with larger vintages vases spaced down it, containing white lisianthus and white scabiosa. We also used my aunts antique pitchers, with was a nice touch.

What was your most memorable moment of the day / evening?

There are too many to list… as we shared so many precious moments with our loved ones.

For me it was walking out of the apple orchard and  seeing my future husband and all of our family and friends *Zach surprised me with a different wedding band than the one we originally picked out.

This wedding is just absolutely gorgeous. Loving all those antique and vintage pieces – they just add so much personality to Jess & Zach’s super pretty Apple Orchard wedding.
