Blush, Merlot & Navy: A Unique Chapel Forest Wedding: Michael & Annemie

All weddings are special, and today’s unique chapel in the forest wedding is special and beautiful too! I’m particularly loving the gorgeous colour scheme of blush, merlot and navy, but what has really moved me, is the incredible story of this newly married couple.

Their’s was not just a wedding, but also a celebration of life…

About 3 months prior to our wedding, someone broke into our house, and Michael was shot twice. It was a difficult time for us but by the grace of God, he recovered well and we are grateful that we get to tell our beautiful story.

To us, our wedding was more than just a ceremony and a marriage beginning. To us, our day was a celebration of life, a celebration of love, and a celebration of each other. A symbol of victory and that we get to live together in Unity.

When it came to a wedding venue we were looking for something totally unique, and we just loved the chapel in the forest.  The warmth and hospitality that the venue gave was immense.

My wedding dress was Indiapora Blu by Enzoani. I loved the sweetheart neckline and the lace of the dress.

For my bridesmaids, we looked for long navy dresses, preferably with a bit of lace in them.

Michelle our wedding florist is also the owner of both the venue Cabbage & Rose and Blomster. She has a real touch for detail and class. I loved the blush and merlot flower idea and she did it exceptionally well.

What were our most memorable moments of the day?

Annemie: “I started to get really nervous just when my dad and I started the long walk through the trees.  It was quite a long walk.  When I got close enough to see Michael’s face, I suddenly felt this peace wash over me, just focused on getting to him.”  “Also seeing his tears as I finished my speech.”

Michael: “When Annemie tilted her head when our eyes met. I could see in that moment nothing else mattered to her.”

Our wedding photographer Yolande Marx was absolutely amazing – she made us feel so comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera and captured such special moments on the day that we will treasure forever.

When it came to wedding inspiration, I loved the combination of navy, blush and gold. Our venue was so beautiful with attention to the finest detail, which made it easy for us style wise as the majority was incorporated into the venue itself.

We wanted fireplaces lit, comfy chairs and seating areas where people could relax, connect and enjoy the evening together.

We had a sweetie bar provided by the venue. Each guest could pack their own packet with sweets which they could take home as a wedding favour.

We used a local lady that bakes the cakes for the venue for our wedding cake. We were looking for a naked cake, nothing too elaborate.

If you could impart any words of wisdom to future brides and grooms? Decide on what are your non-negotiables.  For us, it was a great venue, photographer and videographer. The rest can fit in around that.
