Chandeliers & Naked Bulbs for a Bright & Bold Spring Floral Wedding: Marilee & Pieter

Marilee wanted her wedding day to be a colourful elegant and light-filled celebration. Being a  dedicated Pinterester helped to steer her ideas for the wedding in the right direction and she fell in love with bold, bright colours and impressive chandeliers mixed with simple naked light bulbs, which created amazing wedding decor.

Marilee had been dreaming of her wedding day since she was a small girl, so secretly started planning her day a very very long time ago  – and it is absolutely beautiful.

I loved everything about my Janita Toerien wedding dress! My favourite part of the dress was the bodice that was filled with pearls and glass beads. I truly felt like a princess.

Ilsé Louw from Blomstories was our wedding florist, I wanted to do something different and bold for our flowers. I love colour and wanted to have a bright spring wedding with a touch of elegance and the flowers showcased that.

We wanted our wedding to be a weekend celebration without the interruption of the public. Just us and our guests so Kaleo Guest Farm & Venue in Ceres, Western Cape, South Africa was our choice of venue.

My Dad walked me down the aisle to an acoustic version of the Bridal March.

Having all the family and our close friends under one roof was so memorable. Every person was hand-picked and this made the wedding so much more special.

Our wedding photographer Yolandé’s style of photography is dreamy, romantic and very natural. Our photos exceeded all my expectations and I will be forever grateful for her capturing our wedding day in the way she did.

We wanted to create a very romantic atmosphere at the reception. To achieve this Goeters and Blomstories used large chandeliers, lots of naked bulbs, gold candelabras, crystal candle holders and hanging flower arrangements (above the dancefloor. Together with the beautiful bright flowers, the reception hall looked amazing.

I wanted something simple for our wedding cake, because I wanted the cakes to be decorated with the bright spring flowers. We decided on a 3 tier cake that was arranged at different heights next to each other. The bottom cake was a chocolate mousse, ganache cake, the middle tier was a banana, carrot cake with cream cheese filling and the top tier was a white chocolate ganache cake with raspberry, cream cheese filling. The cakes were finished off with buttercream icing.

Each guest received a white chocolate and rose water flavoured macaron. The macaron was hand painted with floral detail.

If we could impart any words of wisdom we would say. Choosing service providers with a good reputation and work ethic makes everything soooo much easier.

Everyone made the process up until the wedding day go so smooth, and I was able to trust them and just relax. Being a very organised person, making lists and checking and re-checking them every week also kept me sane and on track haha. Really try to take in every moment of the day and the time leading up to the wedding day.

You can get caught up really fast in all the arrangements and people’s opinions that you forget to take a step back and just enjoy it with your husband to be. Include your fiance in the planning and keep communicating what both of you envision for the day, that way both of you stay on the same page.

What an unbelievably gorgeous wedding – those florals and Marilee’s Janita Toerien wedding dress. Wow!
