Deep Wine & Spice, A Minimalistic, Vintage Chapel Wedding: Sam & Kat

We’re going to the chapel, and we’re gonna get married. We’re going to the chapel of loooooove.

This gorgeous minimalistic wedding with a sweet vintage vibe has a lovely deep colour palette of dark wine and spice red. Californian Sam and Southern Kat said their vows in the most adorable chapel in San Diego, USA.

I picked this dress out with my dear mama. I loved it because it was simple and elegant and uniquely crafted. Nothing was fussy about this dress. It was a fun balance of traditional lace with a modern shape -A girl has got to be classy but not afraid to have fun.

We chose to invest in sweet florals and an amazing photographer – those were the things that were important to us. The venues we choose were so beautiful on their own, that we didn’t want anything to distract it from its natural beauty.

We chose these flowers because of their deep wine hues and the fun texture it added to the bouquet. It added some spice to the minimalistic wedding look.

We are both Christians and chose to have a traditional ceremony in a church.

So the ceremony took place at San Diego’s beautiful North Chapel and the reception took place in downtown San Diego at the Horton Grand Hotel. We choose this venue for its romantic New Orleans style.

These two venues were a perfect blend of Sam’s sunny California upbringing and my sweet southern roots. And we wanted our guests to get a taste of both.

Sam and I met while studying at the same Bible school in Europe. He was a hot, Californian surfer and I was a sweet southern bell.

Our wedding photographer Gabe was such a treat to work with! And his artistic skill and talent show in the photos he takes.

We come from different coasts, so the whole wedding felt like a good balance between Californian and southern styles

For wedding favours we sent our guests home with hot churros and good memories.

Besides marrying the most wonderful man, the most memorable moment was when my dear Aunt sang for us. She sang Crazy, by Patsy Cline (written, surprisingly enough, by Willie Nelson… who knew?). It was so enduring and I will forever think of her when I hear that song.

If we could offer any wedding advice to other couples? Don’t fret about all the little details. You can’t be in control of everything, so it’s a lot more fun and a lot less stressful if you just let it be.

Such a lovely wedding and sweet couple! Need more vintage wedding inspiration, or perhaps you’re inspired by the deep wine wedding colour palette?
