Brass Gold, Forest Green and Blush Castle Wedding in Scotland: Ruth & Colm

Brass Gold, Forest Green and Blush Castle Wedding in Scotland: Ruth & Colm
Castle Wedding in Scotland: Ruth & Colm

We had originally planned to get married in Ireland as Colm has lots of family there. We also had a lot of overseas guests who were originally meant to be coming, so we thought that it would be fun to incorporate an Ireland road trip over the New Year with our friends. However, after Covid, rather than try to have the wedding we had planned on a smaller scale, we started to look at venues closer to home (Edinburgh). Drumtochty was perfect for our micro wedding, even though they usually host large weddings. The small dining room made the perfect place for our wedding breakfast. Our castle wedding in Scotland made us feel like we were part of The Crown for the entire weekend.

The Dress

Colm and I met in Australia where we lived together for 5 years. When we got engaged I went dress shopping and went into the Karen Willis Holmes store in Sydney and loved the feel of all of her dresses. I went for the Caitlyn due to the detailing on the back and because it’s made entirely out of sequins.

The Flowers

I wanted a look that was not ‘too done’. I gave our florist a very vague brief of deep red blooms, lots of foliage and a bit of pampas grass and let her work her magic.

Covid

Colm and I didn’t know if we were going to be able to pull off our day even up until 2 weeks to go. Everything was quite last minute, due to the nature of COVID, which when the day finally happened made it all the more sweeter. Although we had planned for the big wedding, with the 80’s cover band, our wedding turned out to be so much more intimate and special.

The following day, Colm’s family had to make a dash for the wedding as the travel ban came into place at midnight so we were very very lucky to be able to celebrate with the 20 people that we had. It gave me a real appreciation for celebrating love in any way possible, no matter how big or small. We absolutely loved every moment of it and I felt that having a smaller wedding meant that I was able to spend quality time with each of our guests.

The Photographer

Emma turned out to be the best gift possible. Our original photographer from the Ireland wedding was due to come across however, they had to pull out at the last minute. With 4 days to spare, Emma came to save the day as she had last minute availability. Bonus of getting married in a pandemic…. availability of incredible photographers who are usually booked up for months if not years on end.

The Decor

I spent months raiding charity shops for old brass candlesticks. The venue itself is so exquisite that for the size of wedding we had we felt that it was already perfect the way it was

The Colour Scheme

Our colour scheme was brass gold, forest green and blush. Forest green due to the time of year we were getting married and the brass gold because of the venue. The blush came into it due to a Pinterest post I had seen. I wish I could say that I am naturally really creative and stylish! I wanted to emulate old school glamour using the velvet and the large throws. I actually think the bridesmaids look like they have walked straight out of a 50’s bond film.

Words of Wisdom

Delegate, delegate, delegate. Trust in the professionals, they have done this many times over and have lots of experience and knowledge to base their decisions. Try to overthink things, everything will pull together.

Totally gorgeous castle wedding, don’t you agree?! Congrats to Ruth and Colm.
