2022 Wedding Dresses! The Three Graces by Claire Pettibone
Daughters of Zeus and Hera, the three graces bestow their gifts of charm, beauty and creativity on humanity. They have been painted and sculpted throughout the ages by masters including Botticelli, Raphael, Rubens and Canova to name just a few. When I began designing new wedding dresses for 2022, I felt a desire to create a collection that would take your breath away…that would be eternally beautiful… like a work of art.
Given the times we’re living in, and the fact that Bridal Market is still being held virtually rather than in-person, I started off with the idea of just 3 dresses. But as inspiration took hold, and as I fell into the joy of creating again after so many months in isolation, those three turned into five. In Botticelli’s famous painting, “Primavera”, the 3 graces are depicted alongside Venus at the centre of the garden, and Chloris and Flora off to the side, so of course, what garden would be complete without them?
I took a little liberty with naming the dresses (a couple of those graces have some difficult to pronounce names!) But these iconic symbols of beauty and creativity served as my muses, and it feels wonderful to be back doing what I love. Through it all, I believe the goddesses are with us still, reminding us of beauty and joy, and inviting us to come dance with them…and I for one, am ready for that party!
Pastel organza beaded flowers and shimmering tulle adorn our Goddess of love as Venus presides over the garden in this backless, long sleeve sheath with a flowing train.
The epitome of all things lovely, Grace is adorned with pearl beaded flowers, a high neck lace bodice and flutter sleeves accented with green fern lace along the open back and long flowing train.
One of our 3 graces, Thalia has an elaborately embroidered hem and long train, strapless bodice with silk buttons down the back and silk ribbon waist sash. Worn with the Botticelli Bolero of billowing sleeves and floral adorned cuffs.
A beautiful nymph transformed into a Goddess, Chloris is radiant in this graceful ivory and silver spun floral embroidery with silk petal sleeves, open back and long flowing train adorned with Guipure lace and silk ribbon.
A floral embroidered gown befitting the Goddess of flowers, Flora features trailing vines and blossoms of pink and red along the bodice, long sleeves and a flowing train adorned with Guipure lace and silk ribbon.
