Grace Loves Lace: Eco Wedding Dress Using 96% Recycled Materials

THE NEXT INNOVATION IN BRIDAL IS COMING AND AUSTRALIAN-BORN GRACE LOVES LACE IS LEADING THE CHARGE

Eco Wedding Dress

Grace Loves Lace have unveiled their first eco wedding dress constructed from 96% recycled materials, earning the brand internationally renowned Global Recycling Standard (GRS) certification.

The first of its kind for bridal, the gown – named  Lumi – is sustainably and ethically handcrafted in the brand’s Australian studio. Featuring fabrics and trims expertly engineered and developed over a two-year period, the gown’s construction is eco-friendly, with pieces GRS certified. From the exclusive lace to the soft tulle and the decorative covered buttons to the eyelash trim, each part of Lumi is a conscious choice for the planet.

From Lumi’s initial conception, Founder and Creative  Director, Megan Ziems, was committed to defying industry standards and avoiding the use of new virgin materials wherever possible. The repurposed resources used in Lumi reduce landfill, ocean waste and CO2 emissions whilst saving water and energy.

“We were inspired to take materials that would have been otherwise discarded and use modern technology to create a beautiful wedding gown that holds so much meaning,” said Ziems.

Ziems has always fostered a climate of rebellion to ensure the brand continues to make strides through innovation. When developing the Lumi gown, Ziems and the GRACE development team struggled to find an eco lace that delivered on the luxurious quality the brand is renowned for, so, decided to take development into their own hands.

“Knowing that up to two-thirds of the sustainability impact of fashion happens at the raw materials stage,  we made the decision to source and develop our own  100% eco lace in our signature pearl lace design,”  said Ziems.

“As a brand, we never stop looking for ways in which we can do better and Lumi was the natural next step in innovation. Repurposing what’s traditionally seen  as a waste product to create a valued heirloom – to me  that’s revolutionary.”

Combining the best fits and cuts to compliment everybody, Lumi has been expertly engineered by combining the most universally flattering patterns  Ziems has uncovered during her ten years in the industry. It’s these components that the brands  Founder and Creative Director believes makes Lumi a standout gown.

“The way the dress hugs and supports the body is flawless. The cup shape and wide straps are perfect for small and large busts, the split on the thigh is elongating, the pearlescent threading and scale of the floral pattern is visually flattering and the sheer lace panel on the lower back adds the drama. Lumi truly represents what GRACE is all about – she’s effortless, feminine and has substance woven into each design and development decision,” said Ziems.

Launching alongside the Lumi gown is the Lumi veil;  crafted from 100% recycled tulle and lace. Featuring  2.8m of soft tulle with an eco eyelash trim, the Lumi veil is a considered addition to any GRACE gown.

“Using recycled materials can be a more costly and time-consuming process than new fabrics, but it has many environmental advantages. We have worked  really hard to ensure the quality of the fabrics and  components are not compromised during the eco  manufacturing process and meet the high standards  that we’re known for.”

The new Lumi Gown ($2,300 USD) and Lumi Veil ($410  USD) will launch July 29, 2021 – available as part of the  Grace Loves Lace made-to-order offering. Available exclusively at www.graceloveslace.com
