Black & White Marquee Wedding
Ellie grew up in Pocklington and always said that she would like to get married at the church there.
It had always been a running joke in Ellie’s family that when she got married, it would be in a marquee in the field at the house. So when it came to planning our wedding, we knew who the first person we needed to speak to was. We loved the freedom of a marquee, and it meant that it had so many personal touches.

We chose a black-and-white wedding theme, which a few people questioned at the beginning, as it was a little different. But once it all came together, everyone commented on how good it looked. The bridesmaids wore black dresses and the grooms’ party wore tuxedos.
Wedding Dress
As soon as I tried the dress on I knew that it was ‘the one’. I loved the buttons running all the way down the back of the dress and the Bardot style.
Walking Down the Aisle
My Dad walked me down the aisle to Unchained Melody. Ghost is my favourite musical and unchained melody is such a classic song. I always said I wanted to walk down the aisle to this.
Wedding Photographer
Amy our wedding photographer was amazing from start to finish! We first met her on Zoom before we booked and we knew straight away she was exactly what we were looking for. She kept in touch over the months before our wedding, and we had a pre-wedding shoot which helped us get to know her. She made us feel so comfortable on the day, and she captured plenty of natural shots which is something we wanted. We absolutely love all of our photographs!
Wedding Flowers
Limelight wedding emporium provided the flower arch at the church and the flower stands outside the door of the marquee. We used a lot of things we already had to style the marquee such as lanterns and candles which again gave it such a personal touch.
Table Centrepieces
My mum, her friend and my grandma made our table centrepieces- we loved that they were made by them as it made it so personal to us.
Wedding Cake
My mum made our cake! We’re very lucky that she makes amazing cakes so it was a no-brainer for us when she said she would like to make it. We had a main cake on our table which was a 2-tier, chocolate and victoria sponge. Then every table had its own individual mini cake as part of their dessert.
Memorable Moments
As you can imagine it is hard to choose just one moment from the day. But one of the most memorable things for us would have to be the moment we were surprised by singing waiters. My mum organised it without telling anyone, and it is something that we and all of our guests loved. They were absolutely amazing!
Wedding Advice
Enjoy the planning and build-up to the wedding. The day goes by quicker than you could ever imagine so try to take time to step back and take it all in. On your wedding day, make a conscious effort to make time together as newlyweds, as it is easy to get separated with so many people to see.
I’m loving this elegant black and white wedding in York, are you planning a themed wedding? What colours or themes do you have in mind?
