Wedding Essentials You Don’t Want to Overlook

Planning a wedding can be incredibly stressful, especially if it’s a big event with a lot of guests invited. You need to make sure the venue, catering and invites are all sorted, and there’s a lot to consider. While the big things are easy to remember, a lot of couples overlook key details that then leave them scrambling as the date of their big day approaches.

You may need to consider whether you need a photographer or whether you want to upgrade to a wedding videographer and capture your moments live. You deserve a wedding you can look back on and remember, and remembering those moments will be something you cherish forever.

To ensure you don’t get caught out, we’ve created this list of wedding essentials that often get overlooked. These are things you’ll definitely want to plan and arrange, but they can get missed when you’re focusing on all the other million things you have to sort out and organise. When planning your dream wedding, it’s important that every detail is worked out and arranged how you want it.

Cutlery and Table Decorations

Decorating the wedding venue is important, and most couples have a specific look or theme that they’re going for. However, it’s easy to overlook small details such as table decorations. The type of tablecloth, the arrangement of guests and the items on the table all make a big difference to how your wedding will look and feel. Make sure you arrange every last detail of the tables at your wedding reception, down to the type of cutlery sets you use.

Make Sure You Venue is Accessible

When arranging a venue and inviting guests, it’s easy to overlook accessibility. The location, capacity, and appearance of the venue are all incredibly important to consider. However, you also want all your guests to be able to arrive safely and without any issues. Many wedding venues are older buildings that might not have step-free access. If you have guests with mobility issues, you need to ensure they’re catered to. This goes for both the ceremony and the reception, as you wouldn’t want anyone to have to miss out.

Organise Transportation if Needed

If your venue is remote or some of your guests are travelling long distances, it’s a good idea to organise transportation too. You may need to provide options to help your guests get to the reception or ceremony, as well as get them back to their accommodation once the day is over.  Of course, you’ll also need to arrange for your own transportation. Make sure you have a plan for how you’re getting to and from the ceremony and how you’ll be going to the reception as a couple.

Organise Alcohol Options

The best wedding receptions are the ones where alcohol flows freely, and the guests can enjoy themselves. If you want to create a party atmosphere at your wedding and ensure everyone is having a great time, make sure you organise the alcohol options. Your venue may have a bar and bar staff available, but you’ll need to check with them how it works. Some venues allow you to bring your own alcohol, which may work out cheaper. You can also encourage guests to bring a bottle and leave it on wine racks for everyone to enjoy.

Check Dietary Restrictions

If you have guests who have special dietary restrictions or food allergies, you need to know in advance. This is important information for your catering team, as you don’t want anyone having to go hungry if there’s no food available for them to eat. Make sure your guests specify their dietary restrictions and allergies when they RSVP to the invites. Double-check before the event just to make sure.

Preparing for Emergencies

While you’ll hope nothing goes wrong on your big day, things can happen, and it’s good to be prepared. If you’re holding an outdoor wedding, make sure you have a plan B in case of bad weather. Other emergencies, such as wardrobe malfunctions or similar, can be solved by ensuring you have the right tools and plans in place to deal with them.
