Such a beautiful and timeless wedding is gracing the blog today courtesy of South African wedding photographer Kate Martens. Having long held an obsession with cherry blossom trees I immediately fell in love when I saw Lana & Herman’s seriously pretty wedding pics!
Whats more I adore the uber romantic colour palette of blush pink and marsala. A timeless and chic combination…

Our wedding venue was The Orchards, Balgowan, Kwazulu Natal Midlands South Africa. We loved the venue as it had a relaxed atmosphere and really shows off the beauty of the Midlands.
I wanted my bridesmaids (my only sister Kara and my best friend and university flatmate Izel) to feel beautiful and special and gave them the opportunity to choose their own dresses – there was only a few prerequisites; they had to be fancy and feminine. They both looked beautiful and their dresses drew a lot of attention.
I was looking for a dress in a very different style and really couldn’t find anything. When I walked out of the dressing room in this dress my sister Kara started crying and I knew it was the one. I loved the soft tulle and subtle lace detail. I think my dress was understated but elegant.
I wore comfortable platforms that I could dance in.
My favourite part of my bridal attire was my veil! It really makes you feel wholesome and pure and pretty, as all brides should be.
I wore little pearl and diamante earrings and a matching pearl clip in my hair.
I fell in love with everything about our florist Carolyn the moment I met her. She loves flowers as much as I do. I gave her a basic colour scheme and general feel of what I wanted. The first time I stepped into the reception hall my breath was taken away. It was soft and romantic and more beautiful than I could ever have imagined.
Herman’s brother Egbert was the best man and only groomsman. It was special to have the 2 brothers share some intimate moments and a lot of jokes before the ceremony.
My dad walked me down the aisle. We laughed all the way. It was really such a special moment in our relationship.
Over the past ten years our paths crossed numerous times. Now, 10 years, 2 degrees, 4 cities, many other weddings and hundreds of kilometers later we can say with certainty that we are dedicated to spending our lives together.
We believe that with unconditional love for each other, the support and moral guidance of dear friends and caring families and God as our compass we will enjoy a life filled with fun, happiness, favour and most of all gratitude.
We first met our wedding photographer Kate during our engagement shoot and I knew from the start that we would get along. She made us feel comfortable and relaxed and managed to capture so much of the emotion of our special day. It was such a privilege to have had her beside us.
I love the rose gold trend – my wedding ring is a Morganite set in rose gold. I wanted to carry that forward into our wedding and chose dusty pink with hints of marsala. As I said previously I love flowers and there were many beautiful dainty flowers: snapdragons, lace flowers and hundreds of roses.
We wanted- our wedding to be to Gods glory. Our ceremony was held in one of the most majestic chapels I have ever seen in South Africa. The reception, toasts and speeches also carried forward these values.
Lots and lots of flowers, crystal glass and candles set a soft, romantic scene.
Cake is a very important part of our lives so our wedding cakehad to be delicious!! Jen baked us a multi-tiered naked Hummingbird cake with Lindt icing-apparently it was amazing! (We didn’t get to have any as the guests kept us too busy and by the time we got there it had vanished!)
What was your most memorable moment of the day / evening?
Sharing such a special day with your closest friends and family is truly a treat and a blessing. The whole day was filled with joy, deep devotion to God and the abundant love of our friends and family. I have never felt so blessed.
If you could impart any words of wisdom to a future brides planning?
Enjoy every moment. Actively stop. Look around. Take in all the little details and moments. My husband and I still talk about our wedding on a daily basis. Make time to talk to all your loved ones. Pray together. It is one of the few moments in your life where you will be overwhelmed with blessings, love, joy and a tangible presence of God.
Thanks so much Lana & Herman for sharing your absolutely beautiful pink blush and marsala inspired wedding – it’s so romantic and dreamy!!
