One image. That’s all that was required for me to fall madly in love with this wedding!
Bonkersly gorgeous and super stylish couple Shaun and Sam had a boho city chic wedding in Durban, South Africa. Peppered with black, bronze, copper and gold detailing this real wedding effortlessly stands out from the crowd.
Sam wore an elegant strapless tulle gown and really made a statement with her bridal accessories; a ridiculously gorgeous gold shoulder necklace, statement sparkly black earrings and bold floral wedding shoes.
Her pretty maids were dressed in cream and black JUMPSUITS with cute gold studded detail. And did I mention the beautiful bridal bouquet she made herself? OK. Must stop gushing now and pass you over to Sam who shares some of the details of her’s and Shaun’s amazing day.
Words by Sam. Amazing images by Fiona Clair.
What inspired you to style your day?
Just where we were at the moment: being in the decor industry my mind changes a lot so we were feeling black, bronze, copper and gold! Chic, city vibes… but overall we wanted an enchanted space in the city!
What made you choose your dress?
The dress chose me: it’s that simple! My sister actually chose it, soft tulle, structured design, elegant and simple.
Tell us about your flowers!
I actually did my own flowers! I am a decorator so love all this stuff! I chose burgundy cala lillies with a statement protea flower tied wiuth a simple black ribbon.
Where did your groom purchase his threads from?
Shaun’s suit was from stuttafords and his bowtie was bespoke and made locally. We had the groomsmen shirts made to match his bowtie.
Where was your Venue?
We chose a modern and urban location; Hotel 64 in the heart of Durban. S.A. I did all the wedding styling myself with help from family, girlfriends and the guys.
Who ‘gave you away’?
We decided instead of being “given away” that I would be “received” by my Husband.
Did you walk down the aisle to a particular track or song?
Yes, a cover my brother selected. He sung live with guitar and keyboard: Latch (see MATT DAVIES13 on Sound Cloud).
Your wedding photos are incredible. Who was your photographer?
Fiona Clair: only the best in the business! This sweet soul is now officially a part of our family! Her presence makes your day that much more amazing!
Any words of wisdom for future brides?
Keep it simple, don’t ask questions or opinions if you know the answers and don’t ever lose sight of what this special day is about, you and your husband.
What was your most memorable moment of the day?
I couldn’t choose even if I tried!
Did you provide any wedding favours?
Yes! Frozen Margaritas, all night long :)
What was your first dance song?
All of you by John Legend (Julia Church sung the cover for us on keyboard) Mesmerizing! This song just speaks to us.
How super amaze is this wedding? Are you as in love with the brides shoulder bling as I am? Doesn’t black, gold, copper and bronze look incredibly chic as a wedding colour choice? Could I ask anymore questions?? Hehe.
