There have been quite a few ‘Alice themed’ bridal shoots and weddings featured on Want That Wedding over the years… some of them quirky, some of them pretty, most of them both – and I just never, ever seem to tire of them.
Today’s Winter themed Alice in Wonderland shoot has a dark, ethereal and slightly gothic bridal vibe. Shot in a cemetery and featuring decadent, deep reds contrasted against otherworldly blues, I must admit I am rather in love…

The concept behind the shoot was Alice in Wonderland, rather than a themed bridal shoot I took elements from Alice, in particular, the pale blue colour of her dress. I really liked the idea of contrasting colours and loved incorporating deep reds with a pale blue as the base colour palette.
The deep red was very warming against the pale blue, perfect for a winter shoot. I really love the dramatic, bold contrasts of the colour used in the shoot, but still creating a beautiful wedding look. Siobhan captured some really amazing shots.
I knew Linda could make me the dress I wanted for the shoot and it was ever so special as it was totally bespoke for the shoot! A beautiful upcycled wedding dress with a colour twist. I think we all agreed the silk train was beautiful yet so delicate to be working with. Linda entrusted me with her beautiful gown and it was the perfect fit for our model Rachel.
Arnos Vale Cemetery was the perfect venue for this outdoor shoot, with an outdoor woodland area already in place for real Weddings, This was our woodland! Which created a bit of a mystery. On the day of the shoot, the weather wasn’t great but I thought it was almost perfect for the photos!
The teacups, pocket watch and keys also brought in elements of Alice in Wonderland – sadly there was no real white rabbit though. Wouldn’t that have been amazing!
The flowers created by Megan were stunning – quite a different colour palette to be working with, but the flowers really complimented and went well with all the styling details. The deep reds in the bouquet looked beautiful with the delicate pale blues of the wedding dress and in the general atmosphere of the woods.
A favourite was the gold mirror I brought along with me ‘Through The Looking Glass’ This created another dimension to the shoot. We loved the idea of capturing some of the table details and Alice’s reflection in the frame. In some shots it was almost like the mirror wasn’t there.
My other favourite shots are the scatter of red petals on the floor, a wonderful contrast against Alice’s pale blue dress and the atmosphere of the woods.
What an incredible shoot. Obsessed with the pale blue contrasted against the decadent red petals, and what a fabulous location for this hauntingly pretty bridal shoot!
