Utterly Romantic Royal Wedding Inspiration: Wistful Whites & Fairytale Veils!

So we’re all still reeling from the Royal Wedding this weekend, of the newly entitled Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Prince Harry and Meghan (formerly) Markle’s wedding was the perfect blend of fairytale classic and modern chic, and all my social media feeds were packed with shares and re-shares of some of our favourite moments.

Therefore, I couldn’t put together an inspiration board without sharing what inspired me the most. After all, this wedding and its style choices are going to inspire and even shift wedding trends for the foreseeable future.

Although that Givenchy gown was the epitome of class and chic, it was the headdress and veil which took my breath away. And mainly due to that moment when Prince Harry first lifted her veil. Who else got goosebumps all over, and choked back a tear? I’m not crying, you’re crying.

Her veil was five metres long, made of white silk. Embroidered onto its edges were floral details representing all 53 countries of the Commonwealth. Holding this incredible veil in place was a tiara. A royal heirloom, originally belonging to Queen Mary and loaned to the bride by our Queen Elizabeth I. At the centre of the piece is a detachable brooch of 10 brilliant diamonds, which was given to Queen Mary as a wedding present in 1893. When her dress was so simple and clean, with zero ornamentation or busy detail, this tiara stood out all the more.

Flower crowns have been a popular choice for a couple of years now, and very few of my brides have chosen to wear a veil at all. But as soon as I watched Prince Harry lift Meghan’s veil, I knew that trends would very quickly shift. I mean, come on… A Prince lifting his bride’s veil is about as romantic as it gets, right? And remember the way she looked up at him. More goosebumps.

So this inspiration board is a nod in the direction of that wistful, romantic feeling. Something dreamy and straight out of a fairytale. Boho brides and flower crowns are all gorgeous, but why not consider something even more refined and classic?
