Relaxed Outdoor Barn Wedding in Cornwall: Mark & Georgina

Relaxed Outdoor Barn Wedding

When we were looking at wedding venues, we really wanted to find somewhere relaxed, and rustic where we could have the feel of a summer party. We chose Trevenna because it was all of these things and perfect for an outdoor barn wedding. I (Georgina) always wanted to get married in Cornwall as my family and I went every Summer together, so it’s such a special place to me.

We had the whole venue to ourselves for 2 nights, making the wedding feel like a weekend away. The venue is absolutely stunning, surrounded by woodlands and countryside giving it such a magical feel and meaning we needed minimal styling. We were able to have the whole grounds which meant games of football and Jenga! We were so lucky to have the summer heatwave on our wedding weekend and were able to get married outside in an informal ceremony. The staff at Trevenna were absolutely fantastic, we loved that they took care of us so well and made us feel so special on the day.

The Dress

I really wanted to find an informal but elegant summer wedding dress to go with the relaxed feel of our wedding day, and I had in my mind that I wanted a cowl neckline. I found the honey silk on the Grace Loves Lace website and booked in to try it on. This was actually the first dress I ever tried on, and I absolutely loved it! So my search was very short. What I loved about the dress was how comfortable it was to wear, other dresses I later tried on were so difficult to move in and I wanted to feel as relaxed and free to dance as possible! The service was amazing at Grace Loves Lace, and the quality was fantastic. I felt so special on my wedding day and was so glad I went for something less traditional.

I also had a second wedding dress from Asos – an Asos edition lace cami wedding dress. My main wedding dress was very fitted and had a beautiful long train, so I decided to get a second wedding dress after dinner and drinks so I could get into my flats and dance the night away. I loved my second wedding dress and the bohemian feel of it.

The Ceremony

My mum walked me down the aisle. This was a huge moment as my mum, stepdad and little brother live in Vietnam and it was really uncertain if they were going to be able to come to the wedding due to lockdown. They braved 6 weeks of quarantine in total just to make it!

My mum and I are also incredibly close – she is one of my best friends, my biggest role model and worked so hard to give me such a loving, stable and secure life. I felt that her walking me down the aisle was a tribute and celebration of her hard work, and the love and respect I have for her. She’s an incredible human being and I was so proud to have her walk with me on my wedding day.

Our Story

Mark and I met at university when I was 18 and Mark was 22. We were in the same accommodation in fresher’s and when I first met him he was dressed in a dragon onesie and I couldn’t stand him!

But I couldn’t help but fall in love with him! We stayed together throughout uni, and after graduating moved to Australia together where we lived for over 4 years. One of my favourite things about Mark is how fun and adventurous he is – so together we explored, travelled and had so many adventures together! We then decided to move back to the UK to be closer to friends and family, and 3 days after we arrived in the UK after 6 months of travelling, he proposed in the Lake District on a beautiful walk at Ennerdale Water. One of our favourite things to do together is hiking, and we love being outdoors – I always wanted to get engaged somewhere in nature, somewhere gorgeous where it was just us two. He did a great job! The stress before for him was huge as our hire car was vandalised, I then got bitten by a dog on the walk and hit my head! But we made it in the end! Our love for the outdoors, and the fun we love to have together, inspired the fun and outdoors energy we had for our wedding.

The Theme

For me I really wanted a rustic, bohemian relaxed feel to the wedding. I wanted a simple colour scheme of white, green and wood which made it feel like we were having an outdoor summer party.

What we loved about Trevenna was that it really didn’t need much styling – the venue is gorgeous and really we only needed flowers!

We also really wanted to not have an official top table, to have long trestle tables that felt like a festival or summer party.

I actually think the simplicity made decision making a lot easier, and I loved the way everything looked on the day!

Our Photographer

Our wedding photographer Tracey was fantastic – we chose Tracey as her photos felt so real and full of fun. We wanted to have a fun, informal wedding and I felt like Tracey really captured the emotion and energy of our day.

She made us feel really relaxed and was incredibly professional, punctual and lovely on the day.

I really didn’t want loads of posed pictures because I wanted to be able to enjoy the day as much as possible – and Tracey was amazing at getting shots quickly and then catching informal, authentic shots of everyone.
