Unique photoshoot ideas for your engagement

Getting engaged is such a special time in any couple’s life. It is the most romantic way of showing your commitment to each other as you begin to plan the next chapter of your life.

Having an engagement photoshoot is a fantastic way to capture these memories and experience something really fun together. Many wedding photographers offer an engagement shoot as part of their wedding packages so use this as a chance to get to know them and get rid of any awkwardness. Here are some ideas that will make your engagement photos look epic.

Hot air balloon ride

Hot air balloon rides are often on people’s bucket lists, so why not book one for your photoshoot? The images will be stunning as you float across the British countryside. You could even try and book one for sunrise or sunset to add a dramatic flair to the final photos.

Be practical with your outfit choice. There is a strong chance you will land in a field, so be prepared for mud. Heels are not advised as well, as you will need to clamber in and out of the basket. Take some layers as you may get a bit cold floating around the clouds.

Bohemian beach picnic

Beach picnics are romantic wherever you choose to have one – though nicer weather is preferred! You can set the scene with some comfy blankets and cushions as well as some rustic décor to tie it together. Food is key for a picnic so choose your favourites. Don’t forget to pop the bubbly as well!

Remember to show off your stunning new engagement ring wherever you can. Think about your hand placements to help the light reflect off it and make it stand out.

Vineyard romance

Vineyards ooze romance at any time of day, so booking one for your engagement shoot is guaranteed to be wonderful.

Golden hour is the perfect time to take your snaps as the colours of the vines will look deep and rich. Make sure your outfit isn’t the same colour as the leaves or the grapes to help you stand out and become the focus of the shot. Light, airy materials are a great match with a vineyard’s ambience, as are brighter colours such as yellows and oranges.

Lavender fields

Lavender fields make the most vibrant backdrop to any photoshoot you can imagine. Although this does mean you are limited to between June and August, waiting for this time will ensure your final images are perfect.

If you simply cannot wait, there are other ways to incorporate the beauty of nature. Rapeseed blossoms into beautiful yellow flowers towards the end of spring. Alternatively, autumnal shoots can take advantage of the local woods and the leaves changing colour to capture some special moments.

Match your outfit to your scenery, though autumnal or wintry shoots will want to avoid gloves so your engagement ring can be a focal point!
