A-Z of Wedding Planning

A-Z of Wedding Planning

Consider this your wedding planning dictionary. When you begin wedding planning, it can often feel overwhelming to know where to begin. Take inspiration from this A-Z of wedding planning by Jessica Sharpe Weddings

A is for accommodation. If your guests are travelling from afar, ensuring your venue and the surrounding area has ample accommodation options is a priority.

B is for Bridesmaids. Choosing your bridesmaids for your wedding should be a fun, enjoyable experience. Do away with ‘should haves’ and choose the people you can’t imagine celebrating without.

C is for the ceremony. You could choose from a celebrant-led ceremony, civil ceremony or church ceremony depending on your preferences.

D is for dogs at weddings! What’s not to love about having your pooch with you at your wedding?

E is for exclusive use. Exclusive use means your venue is just available for you and your guests, making it all the more special!

F is for flowers. More is more with flowers and florists have a wonderful skill for changing a space through floral art and bounds of creativity.

G is for the guest list (and not letting it become a headache for that matter!) make a list and bring out the red pen. If you’ve lost touch or loosely know them, strike them off!

H is for honeymoon. Where in the world will you travel to!?

I is for independent suppliers. Wedding suppliers are some of the most helpful and passionate business owners I have ever come across and are often small companies and independent businesses.

J is for just engaged and the time absolutely not to rush! Take it all in enjoy, celebrate and then plan when you are ready.

K is for kids at weddings. A very personal choice depending on your preference, style of the day and family/friends. The key to managing your preference with regard to children at weddings is to be kind, clear and upfront about your plans.

L is for legalities and getting clear on this. Your local registry office is the best place to start to check the legalities of your situation.

M is for the marquee. With choice and flexibility in abundance, designing your perfect day is paramount.

N is for saying no to anything that isn’t important or valued to you or your fiancée.

O is for order of the day.

P is for photography. After the wedding of your dreams, your imagery will be what you cherish and look back over for years to come.

Q is for questions. There is no such thing as a silly question and your venue and suppliers will be more than happy to answer any thoughts or niggles you have. Don’t be afraid to ask!

R is for RSVP. Make sure you allocate enough time to collate, organise and distribute your guest’s attendance responses.

S is for stationery. Both aesthetically pleasing and functional, wedding stationery is an important factor in running a smooth event. There are some beautifully talented stationers available, from delicate letter-press designs to perfectly calligraphed pieces.

T is for timings. As a planner, this is a must-have. Having a timing schedule that is shared and run through with suppliers in advance is a non-negotiable for the smooth running of your day.

U is for ushers. Your ushers and best men will play a vital role in the day, choose wisely.

V is for venues. Your venue will likely be one of the first ports of call when beginning your wedding planning. Whether it be a marquee site, country house, hotel or village hall there really is something for everyone.

W is for wedding website. Wedding websites are great tools to communicate with your guests and provide detailed information and updates.

X is for Xpert (ok not officially an X I know!) – your wedding suppliers are experts in their field and bring with them a wealth of experience, knowledge and reassurance in their particular areas. Trust them!

Y is for you. Don’t forget why you started your wedding planning; to celebrate the love of you two. Make sure you allocate enough time both on the day and in the planning, to one another.

Z is for ‘zzzz’ – sleep! Don’t underestimate how important it is to ensure you get enough beauty sleep and take some time out of wedding planning.
