Classic & Timeless Old Hollywood Wedding: Courtney & Charlie

We chose Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Bungalows in Scottsdale as our wedding venue because of the beautiful property and layout. It offered multiple other sites, and an all-outdoor venue, which was important to use during COVID. Andaz provided a beautiful Arizona setting without making you feel like you were getting married at a hotel.

Classic & Timeless Old Hollywood Wedding

My style was inspired by classic looks and themes. I wanted looks that would stand the tests of time. I stayed away from designs, flowers, decor, etc. that were “trendy” for the time. Trends will come and go, so if anything inspired me it was more of the old Hollywood glam looks.

The Dress

I purchased my dress and veil from J Bridal Boutique in Tucson, Arizona. The name of the dress was “Harper.” We added the jewelled belt, also purchased at J Bridal Boutique. The shoes were Steve Madden. I knew I wanted a timeless and clean look to my dress. Something I could look back on in 20 years and not say to myself, “What was I thinking?” The crepe material was plastered on my Pinterest board, so that was definitely the style and material I was searching for. I have a more simple style in general, so this dress was simply perfect and everything I wanted.

The addition of the belt added that small touch of sparkle and glam without being too much for what I am comfortable with. The veil added more lace and detail, so I felt like I was able to capture a few looks with the culmination of everything. I loved the fabric of my dress and how classy it looked in photography. I was comfortable all night on the dance floor and had movement of both my arms and legs, which is a very underrated quality of any wedding dress!

The Extra Touches

I purchased my veil from J Bridal Boutique in Tucson, Arizona. It was much more dramatic than my dress was but gave a nice effect of lace and detail that complimented the more simple and clean look of my dress.

The shoes were Steve Madden that I believe I purchased from Nordstrom. They were a style I had worn before and knew I could walk in. I wore them around the house for weeks prior to the wedding to break them in.

My Hair clip was my “something borrowed” and was worn by my Maid Of Honor on her wedding day 1-year prior. She purchased it from a local boutique in Columbus, Ohio. Fun story, our (2) other best friends got married in the months to follow and they too wore this same beautiful hairpiece.

Our Flowers

Our wedding planner, Laki Events + Design, also has a floral part of her business. This was a no-brainer to include both her planning and floral services. This made coordination seamless between the two major items of planning a wedding. Just like my wedding dress, I wanted my flowers to be clean, simple and classic. Everything was white and green. I love Hydrangeas so that was the main flower, mixed in with white roses and others. Hydrangeas in the Arizona heat (was 91 degrees on our April wedding day) are very tricky, but I still loved how everything turned out.

Wedding Photography

We hired Joy + Ben Photography and could not have been happier with our decision. As our search began and we had a million options to choose from, your head starts to spin! It can be hard to decide who to choose. We knew we wanted a light and airy vibe to our photos, compared to dark and moody. We had already contracted with a husband/wife videographer (Cineprose Films – also amazing and talented) and asked them who they have enjoyed working with in the past? Joy and Ben were recommended and we headed to their website to view their work. Turns out it was exactly the look we were hoping for. It was easy and very timely to set up a Zoom call to get to know them better and talk about our vision. You want to get along and feel comfortable with your photographer and we felt both of those things immediately with Joy and Ben. They are SO easy to talk to, down-to-earth, and two of the kindest people we have come across!

I will say that in hindsight, my husband and I found this small step of asking our video team who they enjoyed working with to be an extremely valuable piece to our wedding day. You don’t realize this, but your videographer and photographer have to work closely together throughout your day to capture what they need to deliver for the client, you! Joy and Ben were so accommodating to our needs and schedule for the day and they TRULY WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND for us. We received our photos about 45 days after our wedding day and were simply blown away with their beauty and what they were able to capture; so much emotion. love, and laughter.

Words of Wisdom

I’m sure you’ve heard this so much, but the day itself goes so fast. Try to have fun and enjoy the moments from planning to the actual day. Things will go wrong and not according to plan and that is absolutely okay. On your wedding day task someone else to handle those “unplanned” moments so you can enjoy all the moments that you did plan :)
